Our teenagers are coming of age in an increasingly harmful, hyper-sexual culture.
At Higher Ground, our hearts are burdened by the impact our intensely sexualized popular culture is having on teens and pre-teens. Today’s youth face a dating culture impacted by “sexting” and sexual peer pressure, conflicting value messages and a digital age of unprecedented exposure to online pornography. A brief look at recent statistics can be very disheartening:
In our fifth year, the Higher Ground Men’s Conference creates a safe, grace-filled educational environment for teenage young men to discuss these often difficult topics in the context of personal values and faith. Our hope is to partner with parents (dads) as they encourage and equip their teen sons to have a healthy and whole perspective of their sexuality, creating the groundwork for a life rich with relationships that thrive.
The 2017 Higher Ground Men’s Conference is excited to present a special breakout session tract for teens:
Jason Soucinek, Executive Director of ProjectSix19, will present two engaging sessions for teenage young men. For more than a decade, Jason has developed and presented curriculum for both public schools and faith communities around the issues of sexuality and relationships. Each session will be a safe place for teens to ask Jason questions, and be encouraged with biblical, practical tools to becoming a man of integrity:
Porn is everywhere and influences everything from what we see in the social media to the relationships we share. This seminar will tackle the subject of pornography and sex in ways that transcend shame and begins a dialogue that helps a teenager understand God’s plan for sex.
SeXXX and Dating
So. Many. Questions. What do I do if…? How should I…? The world a teenager encompasses becomes more difficult each passing year. Especially as it relates to dating and relationships. Check out this seminar for real answers to some of the difficult questions a teen faces as they begin to date.
NOTE: Dads are ALWAYS welcome to attend the teen sessions with their sons and we leave this to parent discretion. We do, however, encourage dads to allow their sons attend solo providing a safe environment for them to have Q&A with Jason. We have a separate tract of breakouts especially designed for dads that will be presented in tandem with our teen sessions.

Video Games and the Gospel:
Playing Video Games for the Glory of God
Most parents of teens share a concern about the role of video games in their kids’ lives. As people of faith, we wonder about possible negative impacts of too much screen time in any format. Also, countless Christian leaders have declared video games to be a waste of time and potentially dangerous to our kids’ spiritual health.
In this breakout session, Drew Dixon, editor-in chief of GameChurch.com, a site dedicated to unpacking the spiritual value of video of games, seeks to cut through common Christian assumptions about video games to help Christians catch a vision for the value of play. He unpacks the importance of games to our physical and spiritual health as well as what games have to do with the gospel, the good news about Jesus. Is it possible to play games productively, redemptively, and missionally? Come find out.
Dads – while your son is in the Teen Tract Sessions, we encourage you to consider checking out our special parenting sessions with John Fort. His will debut new Parenting for Purity curriculum developed in partnership with Focus on the Family and Covenant Eyes (filtering software).
