Repeating Insanity: Reenacting Trauma Through Addiction

Insanity is sometimes defined as doing the same thing that has never worked and expecting different results.  Every addiction is a form of insanity but it often is not an effort to change the future as much as it is a reenactment of the past.  One of the great factors in many sexual addictions is a history of past sexual abuse.  In this breakout, we will identify and explain why we must engage the shame of past abuse to better understand our draw to shame in the present. Key insights shared in this session will be helpful for men in recovery, but also for those seeking to come alongside and encourage men seeking to break free from past cycles of sexual abuse (pastors, men’s ministry leaders, friends, mentors).
